"[Linda Bray] had troops under fire in three different locations on the night of the invasion and she was proud of them. The story she wanted to tell was how well all of them performed. "But that's not what came out," she says. "It came out 'Women in combat.'" And it came out in the glare of superhype. Identified as America's "first woman in combat" by those with no knowledge of women's history, her picture appeared in hundreds of newspapers and she was on the talk shows of all three networks. There was some talk of a movie contract."
