The Art of Fiction XLVII: Eudora Welty Interview- This link opens in a new window
Presents an interview with fiction writer Eudora Welty. When asked whether she writes for her friends, she says that she does not write for her friends or for herself either; she writes for the pleasure of writing. She believes that she has learnt something new about writing dialogues. She says dialogue writing is the most difficult thing to write because it has so many ways to function. According to her, dialogue comes from familiarity, memory of the way things get said.
