"James H. Meredith, 29-year-old Negro, is registered at the University of Mississippi only after last ditch attempts by State authorities to bar him from the school. As President Kennedy spoke asking for calm, riots broke out on the campus as students and hangers-on fought with U.S. Marshalls."
