Mrs. Rachel Jackson died shortly before her husband entered the Whitehouse. Andrew Jackson did not remarry. Mrs. Jackson's niece, Emily Donelson, served as White House Hostess; that role was later filled by Sarah Yorke Jackson, Andrew Jackson Jr.'s wife.
