Primary Sources: Kings and Queens - England: Edward VIII
"In this collection, we hear broadcasts that Edward made as Prince of Wales and during his brief reign. Friends of the prince join historians to share their insights into the uncrowned King and discuss how the abdication changed the course of the British monarchy. We also hear from the Duke and Duchess of Windsor themselves as they reflect on their lives and that momentous decision."
Wallis Simpson and Edward visit Nazis in Germany, 1937
In October 1937, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor (formerly Edward VIII and Mrs Wallis Simpson) visited Germany where they met Adolf Hitler. It was a very controversial decision and the British government advised Edward and Wallis not to do the trip. It has been reported the Duke gave full Nazi salutes. Although the Pathe footage does not show the salute, it does show the Duke of Windsor at a concert hall surrounded by swastikas and portraits of Hitler.
