This guide provides tips that can be used when searching for articles in databases; including how to locate the full text of articles.

Phrase Search

A phrase search is created by putting quotation marks around a group of words that must be found together in a certain order.

Search without quotes

cats rule

 

The search will retrieve these:

  • Dogs rule the world together with cats in perfect harmony.
  • Cats rule the world.

 

Search with quotes

"cats rule"

 

The search will retrieve this:

  • Cats rule the world.

But not this:

  • Dogs rule the world together with cats in perfect harmony.
