Circulation Services: Requesting Material

Who can checkout what, for how long, and how much are fines?

Requesting library material during the Library Expansion

During the Library Expansion, most library books will be inaccessible to the public.  Library staff will retrieve them through the Request Service described below.

Most materials available within a 24 hours window include:

Materials remaining publicly available include:

  • General Collection
  • Oversize
  • Juvenile
  • Learning Resources
  • Oversize Reference
  • Periodicals/journals
  • Media
  • New Books
  • Newspapers
  • Liberty Collection
  • Dorothy Rouse-Bottom Collection
  • Vogan Collection

Materials located in Gosnold Storage and Oversize Storage will be available within 3 days.

Requesting BOOKS online

To request books online, go to the Online Catalog and search for the books you want.

Use the Request buttons either in the results list or the book's page. (samples below)

        

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then, follow the instructions on the Login screen to place a hold on the book.

Request the selected item.  You can then return to the catalog for further searching or log out of your library account.

You will receive an email when the book is at the Circulation Desk to be picked up. (Usually within 24 hours) You will then have 7 days to pick it up before it is reshelved.

This service is available to those with a CNU ID Card or a Community Patron Card.  Others will need to come to the library in person to request a book be retrieved.

Requesting BOOKS in person

If you need a book quickly, or do not have a CNU ID Card or Community Patron Card, you can request books to be retrieved in person.

Please go to the Circulation Desk, fill out a Book Retrieval Request form (sample below), and wait while we retrieve the book for you.

During the school semesters, we will have a table in the Reference Commons with staff dedicated to retrieving books during set hours (listed here after 8/21).

 

Requesting JOURNAL ARTICLES online

First, please check Journal Finder to see if the desired journal issue is available electronically.

If the journal you need is only in our print collection, or is not available in the Trible Library, please submit a request through our Interlibrary Loan Service.

 

This service is available to CNU Faculty, Staff, and Students.  A CNU ID number is required to use the service.  Most articles are delivered within 3 business days.

Requesting JOURNAL ARTICLES in person

Please check Journal Finder to see if the journal title you need is available in print in the Trible Library.

If the year you need is here, please go to the Circulation Desk with the citation information for the article.  We will need Journal Title, Year, Volume, Issue, and Page Number(s) in order to retrieve the correct volume.

Depending on the location of the volume, the article may take up to 3 days to retrieve.

This service is available to any member of the public.
